How Not to be Seen: A Fucking Didactic Educational .MOV File is the title of Hito Steyerl's new work, included in the Venice Biennale exhibition Il Palazzo Enciclopedico. Eurasian German Japanese filmmaker and writer Hito Steyerl produces film installations to comment and critique on current social and geo-political issues faced by world citizens that predominently deal with the globalization of the technological advances in communications, ubiquitous surveillance and media induced imagery, virtually-realistic (VR) computer animations, pop culture and war. How Not to be Seen is a deadpan and technist demonstration and deconstruction of the magic of visual illusion in contemporary media, for example how a camera crew disappears after invisible rays emanate from an iPhone.
